Yuri Kozyrev and Kadir van Lohuizen present their series ‘Arctic: New Frontier’ at London’s Saatchi Gallery. The exhibition will be open from 15 March to 5 May 2019.

Both were laureate of the 9th Carmignac Photojournalism Award for their work on the Arctic – an endowment that allowed Yuri Kozyrev and Kadir van Lohuizen to carry out their double polar expedition. For the very first time, two photojournalists have simultaneously covered the entire Arctic territory to bear witness to the irreversible effects of climate change, and document the large-scale development of multi-national economic interests.

Yuri Kozyrev (b. 1963, Russia) started his career documenting the collapse of the Soviet Union and the rapid changes in the former USSR during the 1990s, before reporting on the conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq for Time Magazine. He has received numerous honours for his work including several World Press Photo Awards, and is a member of the NOOR agency.

Kadir van Lohuizen (b. 1963, Netherlands) has documented South Africa’s transition from apartheid to democracy, the Intifada, and the social effects of the collapse of the Soviet Union. For one of his long-term projects, he followed seven rivers of the world from source to mouth, capturing daily life along the way. Lohuizen is on the supervisory board of the World Press Photo foundation, and a member of the NOOR agency.
