LOBA 2016 (5/12)

September 21, 2016

On 28 September, the winners of the Leica Oskar Barnack Award will be honoured in Berlin. Vincent Delbrouck is among the finalists.
On 28 September, the awards ceremony for the Leica Oskar Barnack Award will take place as part of the European Month of Photography in Berlin. For the first time, Leica will present all winning and shortlisted series in a major exhibition, displayed at the Neue Schule für Fotografie (New School for Photography) in Berlin for the duration of the festival from 29 September to 23 October 2016.

Until the winners of the main and newcomer award have been revealed, we will take a look at the twelve submissions that have made it onto the shortlist – presenting one series each day. Today: New Paintings by Vincent Delbrouck.

Paintings are a central source of inspiration in Vincent Delbrouck’s work. Just as a painter arranges layer upon layer of colours and shapes onto canvas to create a world in itself, Delbrouck consolidates fragments of his visual experience into new contexts of colour and form. On his extensive travels, the Belgian artist builds up an archive of images based on the conviction that the phenomenons of our world should not be subjected to hierarchic categorisation by any ideology or concept.
