Leica Gallery Los Angeles presents the group exhibition ‘Broad Strokes II’ with works by Kathryn Boyd Brolin, Jamie Johnson, Madison Krieger, and Lisa McCord. The showcase opens on March 2, 2023.

Jamie Johnson’s series ‘Growing up Travelling’ shines a light on Ireland’s Traveller community – an indigenous ethnic minority that continues to experience enormous discrimination. At the centre of the project are portraits of the children born into this nomadic way of life.

Lisa McCords began documenting life on her grandparents’ cotton farm in 1978, when she was twenty-one. Her series ‘Rotan Switch’ tells the story of the Arkansas Delta’s culture through the lens of personal experience, whilst also acknowledging the implications of her own role as a white photographer.

With her series ‘The Desert is a Woman’, Kathryn Boyd Brolin presents a collection of poetic, deeply personal photographs that capture the dreamlike state she experienced in the desert – where “the dunes took the form of my heart, or the other way around.”

The project ‘#?@&*$!’ by Madison Krieger encompasses a series of stylised portraits inspired by 1960s films and cartoons. With expressive elements like rage, chaos, transformation and violence, the artist shows a side of femininity that has been suppressed by modern patriarchal standards.

The exhibition will be on display until April 17, 2023.
