The twinkle in my eyes

January 18, 2016

From January 18 to February 21, 2016, the Galerie in der Lände in Kressborn (D) is presenting the exhibition 'The Twinkle in my Eyes – Toni Schneiders, rediscovered'.
On January 17, 2016, the Galerie in der Lande in Kressborn (Germany) opened the exhibition 'Das Zwinkern in meinen Augen – Toni Schneiders, wiederentdeckt' (The Twinkle in my Eyes – Toni Schneiders, rediscovered). It will be on display up until February 21, 2016. With a presentation of around 110 photographs belonging to the Gundlach Collection in Hamburg, it gives an overview of Schneiders' creativity between 1946 and 1990.

Founding member of fotoform
Leica photographer Toni Schneiders (1920-2006) was one of Germany's greatest photographers of the last century. In 1949 he was a founding member of the avant-garde group fotoform, a loose organisation of photographers who tried, following the cultural barbarism of the Nazi era, to break both formally and aesthetically with conventional forms of photography, and to find new paths.

At times poetic, at times humorous
Schneiders' photographs are defined by their formal severity, virtuous use of light and concentration on the essential. They are imbued with the artist's interest in those in front of him, whom he presents at times poetically, at times humorously, but always with a lot of sensitivity.
