Complex reality in the images
With his most recent series, Kin, which was on display at the Fondation Henri Cartier-Bresson in Paris last Spring, Hugo concentrates first of all on his personal experiences in his homeland, South Africa. With intense portraits and landscape images he captures the complex reality of a country that, as a result of past colonisation, is marked by political, economical, cultural and racist tensions and contradictions.
