In his series ‘No Buddha in Suburbia’, Peter Bialobrzeski turns his focus on the megacity of Mumbai – India’s largest city, and the subcontinent’s commercial and financial centre.
Bialobrzeski’s images are tightly packed, everyday scenes that highlight the contrasts between local traditions and advancing globalisation.
Peter Bialobrzeski (b. 1960 in Wolfsburg, Germany) is a passionate Leica photographer. He is a two-time winner of the World Press Photo Award, and was honoured with the Erich Salomon Award in 2012.
The accompanying exhibition catalogue of the same title includes an illuminating essay by Ranjit Hoskote (German/English). ‘No Buddha in Suburbia’ is part of the RAY PLUS programme of the international arts triennial RAY 2021.
