No less than two issues of the S Magazine have received renowned DDC Awards in the Excellent Arts category: Gold for issue No. 7, Bruce Gilden, and Silver for issue No. 6, Enrique Badulescu.
On December 4, 2015, the Deutscher Designer Club (DDC) “Good Design 16” Award ceremony took place in Frankfurt am Main. The awards are among the most important ones on the design scene. The DDC honours ten different categories including, Product, Corporate Design, Architecture, Excellent Arts and Future.
The seventh issue of the S Magazine ('American Made' by Bruce Gilden) received the highest award in the Excellent Arts category. In their laudation, the jury explained the reason for their decision as follows:
“With Gold in the category »excellent arts« this year we award a compendium that captured us immediately and took us by storm: The S Magazine by Leica, edition number 7, title: »American Made« by Bruce Gilden. (…)
The format of S Magazine by Leica not only is designed in highest quality and standard, but produced and fashioned to utmost care. Its layout compliments the creations of the individual internationally renown photographers with every issue published. The pages morph into space, the articles and their typography leave room for an optimum of unfolding of the photographs.
This medium establishes an individual and analogue active space for outstanding photographical and artistic creation. Both editing and presentation of the artist Bruce Gilden in issue 7 of S Magazine has been unanimously awarded by DDC »Excellent Arts« this year with Gold – and we want to express our congratulation to the winner!”
Second place – the Silver award – went to issue No. 6 of the S Magazine (the Enrique Badulescu issue).
LFI commissioned the design of both issues from the Tom Leifer Design Agency.
