Donata Wenders

The Johanna Breede Gallery in Berlin presents the German Leica photographer's exhibition 'Silent Traces' – open from 15 November 2014 to 17 January 2015.
From 15 November, the Johanna Breede Gallery presents the work of German photographer Donata Wenders, who is now based in Los Angeles, New York and Berlin. Alongside highlights such as the acclaimed series Journey to Onomichi, the exhibition also includes a first-time display of eleven small-format silver gelatine prints, created in the Allgäu region in 2010.

Titled In the Snow, the series consolidates the artist's aesthetic approach into extremely fragile visual spaces. Behind a foreground of snowflakes, the dark shape of a woman appears in the grey winter light. Her shilouette is out of focus, her whole existence as delicate and fragile as glass. "I wanted to make visible what takes place between people," Donata Wenders explains. "There is a kind of field between people – a fluid, intangible energetic sphere. Whatever it may be, in this image it becomes visible: a world that exists beyond our fixed structures and forms – a world that still exists even when everything else has gone."
