The Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam presents the exhibition ‘Ed van der Elsken – Camera in Love’. On display up until May 21, 2017.
Known above all for his street photography, van der Elsken (1925–1990) is considered one of The Netherlands’ most important photographers. Camera in Love, however, goes way beyond just his street photography, offering a comprehensive overview of his very diverse work.
Van der Elsken starting dealing with photography in 1947. Born in Amsterdam, he moved to Paris in 1950 where he worked at the Magnum Agency’s photo lab. He had his first exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 1953.
Issue 2/2017 of LFI, which will be available on February 24, 2017, includes a comprehensive portfolio of van der Elsken’s work.
