The exhibition, which will be on display from 29 June to 5 September 2018, investigates the genre of portrait photography across a wide range of different periods and cultures. Iconic images by photography greats such as Richard Avedon and J.D. Ojeikere are juxtaposed with works by contemporary artists such as Yto Barrada, Samuel Fosso, Zanele Muholi or Guy Tillim, as well as a number of remarkable historical photos by unknown authors.
The exhibition is the result of a collaboration between the Foam Museum (Amsterdam) and the Walther Collection art foundation (Neu-Ulm and New York).
