Our LFI.Gallery continues to enjoy great popularity. Time and again, our photo editors are amazed by the hundreds of submissions that reach us day after day. Now we are particularly delighted that an exquisite selection of our Pictures of the Week are on display at the Manzana 1 Photo Festival in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia. One of our picture editors, Carol Körting, was there, taking a closer look at the event.
LFI: How did the collaboration between LFI and the Manzana 1 Photo Festival come about?
Carol Körting: A year ago, Slovenian photographer Matjaz Krivic had an exhibition here in Santa Cruz de La Sierra; the Director of Manzana 1, Ejti Štih, who has been living here for 40 years, is also from Slovenia. Starting a photo festival here was a natural consequence for the two of them. That's how it came about that they each looked through their contact lists and invited various photographers and picture editors to a celebration of photography.
What was the atmosphere at the festival like?
The visitors were incredibly motivated. There were a lot of young people who, despite the suffocating heat and tense political situation – there are a lot of strikes happening in the city right now – made their way to the museum. In fact, the exhibition space is a former police building, and it's lovely to see that art has conquered the place.
In addition to photographic works by the likes of Ragnar Axelsson and Daniele Volpe, pictures by LFI.Gallery users are also on display...
Exactly. In collaboration with my colleagues, I put together a selection of Best-of pictures by 20 photographers, which can been seen here. The users were really delighted, and, with barely any exceptions, the resonance was positive.
Can we look forward to further collaborations in the future?
If the initiators can get the financial support, they would like to continue with the idea next year; otherwise, the plan is to hold the event a year later – and, of course, we would love to be back here again in the future!
