Street Smart
LFI Workshop with Magnum photographer Bruce Gilden,
    from October 26 – 28, 2015, 10am to 5pm

There is one seat left in Bruce Gilden’s first workshop from October 23 – 25, 2015

Bruce Gilden brings his unique style of street photography to this workshop – a style that he has truly made his own over the past 40 years of working in New York City and other urban areas, both in the US and abroad. He will work with the students on how to improve the pictures they shoot in the streets, by best identifying their particular working style, and aiding them in gaining the street-smart sensitivity necessary to working in any environment – the ability to be in the middle of a scenario, while remaining unobtrusive. Gilden will review students’ portfolios, as well as recently-completed assignments and pictures shot during the workshop, giving insight into his or her strengths and weaknesses. He will also give a presentation of his 40-year body of street work.

In addition to an assignment to be shot in advance of the workshop, you are requested to bring your best photos, ones that are indicative of your style (they do NOT have to be “street” photographs), to the first session.

Born in Brooklyn, New York in 1946, Gilden developed a preference and a certain eye for everyday events on the street. Working with a street photography style resulted in very personal, multi-award-winning social portraits of many large cities. Gilden is a member of the Magnum Agency and most recently received the Guggenheim Grant in 2013. Gilden lives in New York.
