Telling stories, establishing connections
LFI Workshop with Dominic Nahr on June 27 and 28, 2015
Dominic Nahr was born in Switzerland in 1983 and grew up in Hong Kong. While studying film in Toronto he also began working as a freelance photographer. He has won a number of awards, including the 2009 Leica Oskar Barnack Newcomer Award. Among others, he has been published in TIME, The New Yorker, The New York Times Magazine, National Geographic Magazine, Stern and LFI. His work in Iraq will be on display at LFI in Hamburg, as part of the Photo Triennial which begins on June 17. LFI will also host a talk by the artist and a podium discussion.
Nahr will be running an intensive programme during the two day workshop, including editing, individual and group discussions, and a presentation of his approach to photography. The aim of the workshop is to further develop each participant's imagery and, by means of focussed picture selection, boil the story down to the essential.
We will be dealing with:
- researching and planning a theme
- choosing the right narrative approach
- images that convey content as much as emotions
- focussed editing
- the changes happening in photojournalism and the market
Participants are asked to bring along an existing project, which can be further developed during the workshop.
Dependant on availability, participants can borrow camera equipment from the current Leica product portfolio (insured for the length of the workshop)
