Paul Hansen has been chosen for the “World Press Photo of the Year 2012”. The Swedish photographer documented a group of men carrying the dead bodies of two children through the streets of Gaza City, followed by the corpse of their father lain out on a stretcher.
The two year-old Suhaib Hijazi and her three year-old brother Muhammad were killed when their home was destroyed by a missile strike. Paul Hansen took the picture for the Swedish newspaper, Dagens Nyheter, on November 20, 2012.
The “World Press Photo of the Year” is granted once a year and is the most important international award for photography. In addition to Paul Hansen’s winning image, an international jury honoured a total of 54 photographers from 32 countries in a total of nine categories.
The 3/2013 issue of LFI will carry a comprehensive report on the winning picture of the 2012 World Press Photo.
