The Kreuzweg (Crossroad) exhibition of works by Stephan Schenk will be presented by the Fotostiftung Schweiz in Winterthur, Switzerland, from June 7 to October 13, 2014. It includes 14 photographs of World War I's greatest battlegrounds in Europe and overseas.
An extract like a soldier's grave
Schenk only turns his eyes towards small portions of the history-soaked ground, asking the question as to whether the “twentieth century's very first catastrophe” can even be brought to mind with conventional images. Consequently, he also questions the objectivity of deceptive media photography: he weaves his pictures into monumental tapestries, drawing on ancient forms of image presentation.
