Robert Adams – The Place We Live offers a comprehensive overview of the American landscape photographer's work. With a selection of 240 photographs spanning the entirety of his 45-year long career, the exhibition portrays the rapidly changing landscape of the American West.
Multi-layered black and white photographs
On one level, Adams' images highlight the increasingly alienated relationship between man and his environment. At the same time however, his sober black and white photographs are beyond simplistic interpretations. His precise images capture the American Way of Life in all of its ambivalence, along with the powerful, natural force of the American landscape.
