Whether the recording of the singing Miriam Makeba or the picture of Nelson Mandela looking through the bars of his former prison cell: Jürgen Schadeberg has photographed numerous legendary icons in South Africa.
As a photo journalist and representative of Life Photography, he is a humanist in the best sense of the word, interested in the everyday life and living conditions of his contemporaries without prejudice. He always met the people he portrayed with sympathy and respect, regardless of nationality or skin colour. Leica honored the photographer with the Leica Hall of Fame Award 2018 for this life's work spanning more than seven decades, for his tireless, courageous and equally outstanding commitment as a photographer.
The opening will take place on December 5th at 6.30 p.m. in the presence of Karin Rehn-Kaufmann, Art Director Leica Galerie International.
An extended portfolio of Jürgen Schadeberg was published in LFI 1.2019.
