Arrivals and Departures

August 7, 2014

The Leica Gallery in Vienna is currently presenting an exhibition of pictures by Jacob Aue Sobol that will continue to run until September 20, 2014.
Two years ago the Danish Magnum photographer Jacob Aue Sobol set out on a journey with the idea of crossing the Asian continent, from Moscow to Peking via Ulan Bator.

Arrivals and Departures is the photographic log book of that journey. Taken with a Leica M Monochrom, the first black and white digital camera, the images tell the story of the encounters Sobol had with people along the Trans Siberian train line.

The photographs are certainly not the fleeting report of someone just passing through; on the contrary, Sobol's portraits reflect an intensity that is almost painful – the intimacy of the pictures leaves no viewer unaffected.

The photographs in the Arrivals and Departures series are for sale.

The catalogue from the exhibition can be purchased at the Leica Store for 15.- euros.
