The historic-photographic exhibition On Both Sides of the Barricades. Photography and War Reporting in the Warsaw Uprising 1944 ceremoniously opened in Hamburg on Wednesday night.

The exhibition is the result of a collaboration between LFI, the Warsaw Rising Museum, the University of Hamburg and the Regional Agency for Civic Education in Hamburg. It is under the patronage of the Mayor of Hamburg Olaf Scholz and the Ambassador of the Republic of Poland to Germany.

On Both Sides of the Barricades will be presented at the St Nikolai Memorial (former main church of Hamburg) until 19 November 2014. A second part of the exhibition will be displayed at the LFI Gallery in Hamburg from 7 October.

At the heart of the project are photographs taken during the Uprising by both Polish and German war reporters, and printed in news publications of the time. The images will be presented in the context of press articles published in either country.

Public Premiere
Many of the Polish images are shown in public for the first time. The exhibition also includes previously un-researched biographies of the contributing photographers.

All accompanying texts are presented in German and English. Admission is free.
