Wild Animals - Nick Brandt

October 26, 2013

Berlin's Camera Work Gallery presents the German premier exhibition of new works by Nick Brandt, open until 30 November 2013
The solo exhibition is an exclusive selection of images taken from the final instalment of Brandt's ambitious trilogy on Africa's vanishing animal world. With dramatic visual language, the images convey the grandeur of Africa's native animals, raising awareness for an endangered natural world. This is the first time the recently published works will be shown in Germany.

Brandt's iconographic style and dynamic interplay of light and shade intensify the beauty of the natural world, making the sense of threat from human intervention all the more poignant. Shot at very close proximity, the images convey a magical relationship between man and beast, with the wild animals appearing both familiar yet untouchable.

About the photographer
Born 1966, Nick Brandt grew up in the UK, where he studied Painting and Film before emigrating to the USA. Throughout the nineties, Brandt produced numerous award-winning music videos for artists such as Michael Jackson (Earth Song, Stranger in Moscow, Cry), Jewel and Moby. His passion for the natural world of East Africa first took hold while working on the Earth Song video in Tanzania. His work is centred around the viewer's emotional reaction to the animals he portrays.
