Sibylle Bergemann – Photographs

June 23, 2014

From June 27 to July 27, 2014, the ifa-Galerie in Stuttgart is presenting an exhibition of works by the German photographer
The exhibition Sibylle Bergemann. Photographs encompasses the complete works of one of Germany's most important contemporary photographers. The diversity is quite overwhelming - fashion, reportage, essays, landscapes, cityscapes and portraits.

This diversity represents the expression of Bergemann's unmistakable style, where the societal context plays a significant role. Her images reflect a critical analysis of the GDR (former East Germany). She does not see photography simply as a form of replication, but as a medium through which she can draw conclusions about reality, interpreting it and taking a stance in relationship to it.

Bergemann first became known as a fashion photographer; she is, however, an outstanding representative of photographic essays and a very precise observer. Her work is often serial, but she has also been focusing on personal themes and photographic notes for some time now.
