This diversity represents the expression of Bergemann's unmistakable style, where the societal context plays a significant role. Her images reflect a critical analysis of the GDR (former East Germany). She does not see photography simply as a form of replication, but as a medium through which she can draw conclusions about reality, interpreting it and taking a stance in relationship to it.
Bergemann first became known as a fashion photographer; she is, however, an outstanding representative of photographic essays and a very precise observer. Her work is often serial, but she has also been focusing on personal themes and photographic notes for some time now.
