15 years after the fall of the Berlin Wall, Daniel & Geo Fuchs travelled throughout the new German states equipped with a large-format camera, to photograph the transformation of buildings and spaces that had been built and used by the former East German Ministry of National Security. The pictures show sterile prison cells, interrogation rooms, control centres, offices, bunkers, filing cabinets and 'time-preserved rooms'.
In combination with sculptures by Uli Gsell, the gallery spaces are transformed into attractive installations, which leave the visitor with feelings of both trepidation and fascination.
In addition, there is an installation and video projection by Jürgen Palmer on display in the darkened projection room. It creates an oppressive space within a space, where the dividing lines between perpetrator and victim, cause and effect, before and after, become blurry.
