The exhibition 'Steve McQueen – The Last Mile, King of unCool' will be showing at the Automobile Museum 'Prototyp' in Hamburg. Throughout the Sixties and Seventies, films such as The Magnificent Seven and Papillon established McQueen (1930-1980) as one of the industry's most sought-after actors. His wife Barbara has captured her husband's final years on camera, creating very personal portraits which show the man behind the legend.
Barbara Minty was twenty-four and a successful model when she met the much older McQueen. From the beginning, she stipulated that her camera must be allowed to be ever-present throughout their relationship. The couple married eleven months before McQueen's death in 1980. His wife's photographs capture Steve McQueen the man – who was an amateur racing car driver, and a passionate collector of oldtimer cars and motorbikes.
