Katharina Sieverding

Share:

Katharina Sieverding  – German artist and Master student of Joseph Beuys – is one of the most distinguished contributors to contemporary art. Working with experimental photography, she also transforms the medium through multi-media work.

The exhibition is centred around Sieverding's project "Die Sonne um Mitternacht schauen" (Looking at the Sun at Midnight). From May 2010 to June 2013, the artist downloaded a stream of approximately 100,000 visual files from NASA, which she condensed into a dynamic picture of the surface of the sun.

The term worldline – drawn from relativity theory – characterises the core of Sieverding's art, which focuses on the central questions about human existence. In her work, a critical engagement with scientific and rational thought is as important as the re-interpretation of science into something mythical.
