Santiago Sierra (*1966) is known around the world for his provocative performance pieces. There are few other European artists whose work elicits such heated response or causes the same degree of controversy.
In his work, Sierra addresses the harshness inherent in political and economic structures. He confronts the viewer with those realities in which economic exploitation, low wages, prostitution and the suppression of past memories are the order of the day. "My work champions lives destroyed by capitalism. And for me, capitalism is sadism’s economic weapon of choice."
