An American in St. Petersburg: From 25th August to 14th October 2012, the exhibition "Message from the Heart" of extensive works by photographer Walter Rosenblum, will be held at Rosphoto, the State Museum and Exhibition Centre for Photography in St. Petersburg.
Walter Rosenblum was born 1919 in New York. Already as a teenager he used to roam his working class neighbourhood with his camera. He became a member of Photo League, a co-operative of photographers documenting working class life in New York. After the second world war, his path led to Europe, where he recorded the life of Spanish refuegees in Southern France. Once back in New York, he began his extensive career as a teacher of photography, initially at Brooklyn College, followed by many other posts. But he always made time for his own projects – many of which have now found their way to St. Petersburg.
