Robert Adams (born 1937 in Orange, New Jersey) is among the leading fine art photographers of the past decades, alongside classic artists such as Lee Friedlander and Robert Frank. While the American's work has gained increasing international recognition in the recent past, this is the first truly comprehensive overview of Adam's oeuvre.
In black and white photographs – many of which he took with a large format plate camera – Adams depicts the changing landscape of the American West, capturing both the urban centres and the rural areas of Colorado, California and Oregon.
Encompassing more than 300 original prints, the retrospective will be touring Vancouver, Los Angeles, Denver, Madrid (Museo Reina Sofia) and Paris (Musée Jeu de Paume). The Josef Albers Museum in Bottrop will be the only venue in Germany to be hosting the exhibition.
