With the "Present Tense – Photos from the South of Africa" exhibition, the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon is presenting contemporary pictures taken by photographers from the south of Africa. As he put the collection together, the curator, António Pinto Ribeiro, focussed on three recent generations of photographers, whose work covers aspects of the post-apartheid era.
Focussing on people
The exhibition includes works by Paul Samuels, South Africa, Délio Jasse, Angola, Filipe Branquinho, Mozambique, Mack Magagane and Pieter Hugo, both from South Africa. As diverse as their pictures are, they all frequently highlight themes around people, their work, their everyday lives, and marginalization.
The exhibition will run from June 22 to September 1, 2013.
