From March 22 to July 28, 2013, the photographic collection of the SK Stiftung Kultur is presenting the exhibition “AGES – Portraits of the ageing process”.
Using 15 artistic approaches as example – including those of renowned photographers such as Richard Avedon, Rineke Dijkstra and Thomas Struth – the exhibition brings together a diversity of serial portrait projects.
The artists chosen for the show photographed the same person, or even themselves, on a regular basis – often with the same kind of presentation: Richard Avendon (1923-2004), for example, photographed his seriously ill father on many occasions, and Nicholas Nixon (*1947) has been taking portrait pictures of his wife and her three sisters once a year. These works, that are already photography classics, are particularly fascinating because of the consequent approach used when taking the photographs.
