Not only did Ralph Mecke deliver the photographic concept behind the latest issue of “Kult Mag”, but he also photographed the entire ninth edition of the magazine, working exclusively with the Leica S-system. It was the first time the magazine – which was created by Kult Model Agency – featured photographs provided entirely by one photographer.
The issue features five unusual stories, for which Mecke photographed famous models in their original home environments – for example, André Van Noorsauf in a field in Holland, playing the guitar, or Jesper Vesterstrøm surfing in the sea. The results are images that feel very personal, depicting the models in a way probably only their friends ever see them, as opposed to the models’ usual commercial photographs for which they are contracted to pose.
Originally from Berlin, Ralph Mecke has been living in Paris for many years. He is one of the most recognised international photographers of today – his models have included Heidi Klum, Giorgio Armani and Elton John.
