From September 11 to November 17, 2019, the Maison Européenne de la Photographie in Paris dedicates a major retrospective to Moroccan-born artist Hassan Hajjaj.

The Maison Européenne de la Photographie in Paris presents the first major retrospective of works by multi-media artist and photographer Hassan Hajjaj. The exhibition, which is on display from September 11 to November 17, 2019, comprises photo series, video projects and installations from various stages of the artist’s more than 30-year-long career.

Born 1961 in Larache, Morocco, Hajjaj has lived in London since his early teens. His work is a vibrant mosaic of Eastern and Western influences – especially his photographic compositions, which blend powerful colours with contemporary symbolisms and pop art aesthetics. Among his favoured themes are pop-art style depictions of veiled women in unexpected contexts – inviting the viewer to question ingrained cross-cultural perceptions.
