In 2017, Claudine Doury received the
Prix de Photographie Marc Ladreit de Lacharrière en partenariat avec l’Académie des Beaux-Arts for her project
Une odyssée sibérienne. Now the series will be showcased at the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Paris – the exhibition runs from 27 October to 25 November 2018. To create the series, the French photographer (who previously won the 1999 Leica Oskar Barnack Award for her black-and-white project
Peuples de Sibérie) returned to Siberia to revisit the indigenous inhabitants she had captured in her earlier works. In the course of her journey along the 4,400-kilometre-long Amur River, Doury compiled an intimate and authentic portrait of the native Nanaï and Ulche people: her powerful photographs offer rare insights into a vibrant but also increasingly fragile culture.
