Oliver Mark

Share:

Oliver Mark has been photographing celebrities around the world for many years: one could say that portraits of the rich and famous are his speciality. Throughout the years he has managed to gain their hard-earned trust, allowing them to relax in front of the camera. They are able to do so, because they know that Oliver Mark is not trying to exploit them, but rather to capture and present their personalities and individuality as human beings in a sympathetic manner. Consequently, he moves with ease within celebrity spheres, while still remaining an outsider – after all, the photographer is an observer who is never part of the image he is creating.

For the celebrity portraits of his "Außenseiter und Eingeweihter" exhibition, Oliver Mark used a photographic medium many considered obsolete: Polaroid. Using this material, he has achieved floating-like images that often border on the abstract. Famous faces, that we have come to know so well through the media, appear strikingly new and surprisingly human: as human and straightforward as only an instant image can be – absolutely unique and fading with time.
