Since the year 2000, Nick Brandt has been taking photographs in East Africa in a bid to capture a vanishing world. "From the outset, I had a vision in mind: I wanted to create an elegy, a likely last testament to an extraordinary, beautiful natural world and its denizens that is rapidly disappearing before our eyes", Nick Brandt explains.
As a response to the changes he was witnessing in East Africa, Nick Brandt, together with conservationist Richard Bonham, founded the Big Life Foundation. Already they have achieved a dramatic reduction in the poaching of animals along the Kenya/Tanzania border. The aim of Big Life Foundation is not only to apprehend poachers, but also to draw local communities into protecting the ecosystem.
