‘Highway 61’ is a tribute to the storied long-haul route, which originates northeast of Minneapolis and runs 1,400 miles along the Mississippi River though the American Midwest and South. Over the past seven years, Lange – who grew up in Cloquet, Minnesota – frequently revisited Highway 61 to capture the people and places along this historic route.
The Oscar-winning actress (b. 1949) initially studied photography at the University of Minnesota. She returned to the medium in the 1990s when her partner, the late playwright and actor Sam Shepard, gave her a Leica camera.
Her photographs have been exhibited at George Eastman House, Rochester, New York, and the Centre d’Art Santa Mònica, Barcelona, among others.
The artist has dedicated her book ‘Highway 61’ to Shepard.
The opening is on Thursday, November, 21 from 6-8 p.m.
