Free, critical, controversial: Photographers are being invited to submit their works for the zenith Photo Award: the deadline is September 30, 2013, and the theme is "Muslims in Germany". In collaboration with the Mercator Foundation, the middle-eastern newspaper zenith has launched the Photo Award throughout Germany for the second time. The winner will receive a monetary prize of 2,500 euros, as well as publications and touring exhibitions.
Starting September 1, a minimum of six and maximum of twelve images can be uploaded to zenithonline.de. From October 1 to 15, readers can vote on the photo series. The best 25 series are then turned over to the jury, along with 25 other series chosen by the picture editors of zenith. The winning series will be announced at the beginning of November, and will be published in a photo book along with other award-winning submissions.
The first zenith Photo Award was won by Lai Löffelbein for his "Fremde Heimat" (Foreign homeland) series. In LFI 4/2013 you can find his moving reportage about the, so-called, cage people in Hong Kong.
