Documentary Photography Awards 09

July 3, 2014

From July 4 to August 31, 2014, the Munich Stadtmuseum is presenting an exhibition of the the Wüstenrot Foundations' award winners
With the background of a wide-spread, ironic-artistic, post-modern practice, the works of Paula Markert, Till Müllenmeister, Marcel Noack and Christine Steiner stand out due to their dialogue with real-life themes. In the process, all four approaches try to reveal the truth behind the inconsistency and interpretability of the pictures. With this aim, the winners of the Documentary Photography Awards 09 chose very different subjects and forms of presentation.

The Documentary Photograph Awards are organized every two years by the Wüstenrot Foundation in collaboration with the Museum Folkwang's photographic collection. Each winner receives prize money amounting to 10,000 euros and the possibility to realize a new project. After a year to complete the projects, a touring exhibition of the outcomes is put together and complemented with a catalogue. The exhibition, catalogue and tour are part of the award, with the costs fully carried by the Wüstenrot Foundation.
