An insight into a significant era of world hist'Robert Capa. China 1938' will be showing at the Leica Gallery in Vienna from 13 February to 13 April 2013. The exhibition documents the early time period of Japan's invasion of China, during a military conflict which had begun in July 1937 as the Second Sino-Japanese War, and eventually ended in 1945 as part of the Second World War.
Capa arrived in Hong Kong by ship on 16 February 1938. In his photographs, he captured Japanese air raids, the flooding of large areas around the Yellow River in an attempt to hold up Japanese troops, as well as the catastrophic devastation caused by the Japanese army's large-scale air attacks in 1938.
