Joachim Baldauf is one of Germany’s most acclaimed fashion and portrait photographers. In the studio, he likes to combine his S2 with the 70 mm Summarit – the standard focal length of Leica’s medium format system. In LFI 6/2014, he talks about why the Summarit-S 70 mm f/2.5 Asph is his favourite lens.
The Berlin-based photographer has been working with a Leica S for longer than almost anyone, having been a field tester for the S2 months before it was released onto the market in 2009. At the time, four initial lenses were available for the new medium format camera. One of them was the Summarit-S 70 mm f/2.5 Asph – the S system’s standard focal length lens with a small format equivalence of 56 mm. Offering high light sensitivity and excellent image quality, it is suited to a wide range of tasks, excelling across all apertures and distances.
