Martin Mlecko

November 9, 2013

Up until January 4, 2014, the PINTER & MILCH Gallery in Berlin is presenting "still/LIFE", an exhibition of three series by artist Martin Mlecko
“Die Dinge des Lebens” (The Things of Life) tells about how people – in this case the artist himself – long to imbue life into certain objects that accompany them throughout the years. Reminiscent of the past, they document a common story, somehow justifying the emotional connection to objects that are, in fact, lifeless.

The “Evidenz” (Evidence) series, in contrast, reveals an overall view in one single image. “Evidenz” presents a particular place that is a reflection of a person's identity – their private library. Mlecko (born 1951) photographed different people's book shelves from a variety of perspectives, and then made a collage that tells of the particularities of each library and their respective owners.

Transience is the theme behind “Coffee, Cigarettes and Bombs”, the third series being presented. Mlecko staged carelessly squashed coffee cups, discarded cigarette boxes and exploded fireworks, that he found on the streets of down-town Berlin.
