This year, ten young photographers will receive the Magnum Foundation Emergency Fund. The annual grant enables independent documentary photographers to investigate under-reported themes, drawing the public's attention to issues that have not received the media attention they deserve.
Along with financial support and technical assistance, the grant also ensures worldwide distribution of the resulting images.
Each year, a selection of 100 photographers are given the opportunity to present their intended projects to the Foundation. A jury chooses between eight and 15 proposals to be supported by the grant.
The recipients of this year's grant include Kai Löffelbein, Oscar Castillo, Ed Ou and Christian Werner, all of whom have previously worked on projects with cameras from the LFI loan pool. The jury also chose Qinggang Chen, Edmund Clark, Carolyn Drake, Zann Huizhen Huang, Laura Morton and Alessandro Penso.
