From June 13 to 29, 2013, photographs by Maekawa will be on display at the Steven Kasher Gallery in New York. It is the first exhibition of the Japanese artist in the United States.
Maekawa went travelling throughout Japan, Asia, Africa and North America since the year 2000, to work on his wild animals series: a polar bear with its cubs, a giraffe highlighted by an evening sky, monkeys looking directly into the camera – all the photographs testify to Maekawa's great respect for animals and nature. For this series, he was the first artist to receive the Nikkei National Geographic Photo Prize.
