The selection represents "works by Magnum photographers on the concept of defending, trespassing and opening up borders, as well as the interconnection of different territories", explains curator Andréa Holzherr. "The festival focuses not only on geographical, political or economical territories, but also on those of a social or personal nature – addressing both physical as well as symbolic boundaries."
The exhibited photographs – many of them by Leica photographers such as Robert Capa, René Burri, Elliott Erwitt, Tim Hetherington, Thomas Hoepker, Steve Mccurry and Paolo Pellegrin – are displayed in the form of eight exhibitions across the three cities.
The Mannheim_Ludwigshafen_Heidelberg Photo Festival is supported by BASF.
