Every year, the New Contemporaries arts organisation compiles a showcase of works by some of Britain’s most promising visual artists. The 2019 edition of Bloomberg New Contemporaries is currently on display at the South London Gallery, continuing until February 23, 2020. Among the UK-based artists represented in the prestigious showcase are four exciting young photographers: Eleonora Agostini focuses on the objects and surfaces found in domestic spaces; Simone Mudde investigates the nature of photography, based on the creation and deconstruction of the photographic image. Justin Apperley explores the disparity between dystopian delirium and an idealised rural life. Roei Greenberg’s images, taken along the Israeli-Syrian border, appear innocuous at first glance – until the viewer becomes aware of their true context.
