Mark Heathcote - Spotted on the Underground
The winning image of the sixth London Photo Festival was shot with a Leica: under this year's festival theme of Street Photography, emerging photographer Mark Heathcote won first prize with his image Spotted on the Underground, depicting a lonely commuter in an underground carriage.
A red circular notice on the carriage window completely conceals the figure's face, almost giving him the appearance of an alien. The image was taken from a series exploring the anonymity and social isolation that is often present in densely populated urban areas in spite of people's close physical proximity.
Coming up next: Landscape Photography
The next London Photo Festival takes place from 16 to 18 October 2014, under the theme of Landscape Photography.
