For more than fifty years, American photographer Ralph Gibson has exclusively worked with Leica equipment. To this day, the Summicron 50 mm f/2 Dual Range is his favourite lens – despite the fact that it has not been manufactured for the past forty years.
As the name suggests, what sets this lens apart is its additional focal range: while the standard 50 mm Summicron offers a closest focusing distance of just one metre, this special version can be focused down to 48 centimetres. For Ralph Gibson's style of working, it represents not only the perfect tool but also a source of inspiration.
