Skiing legend and Leica photographer: from 13 February to 26 April 2014, Leica Gallery Vienna presents the exhibition Parallelschwung (Parallel Turn) by Stefan Kruckenhauser
Stefan Kruckenhauser (1905-1988) revolutionised alpine sport in the fifties. At the same time, his work as a keen amateur photographer greatly contributed to the popularity of small format photography in Austria.
When creating his photo books "Beautiful Winter in Tyrol – Skiing and High Alpine Experiences with the Leica" and "Snow Canvas – Ski, Men and Mountains with the Leica", Kruckenhauser was able to combine his two biggest passions. Indeed, all of his book projects repeatedly touched upon his favourite theme: the mountains. In 1955, Kruckenhauser was officially awarded a Leica (No. 700,000) in recognition of his work.
