Leica Camera AG takes over view camera manufacturer Sinar Photography AG
On November 25, 2013, Leica took over the Swiss view camera manufacturer, Sinar Photography AG, located in Zurich. Both companies have agreed to remain silent about the details of the transaction.

Sinar Photography AG is the leading manufacturer of cameras for professional view photography. It is the only supplier to offer complete digital solutions for view photography, with everything from cameras, lenses, digital backs and shutter systems, to workflow software.

Sinar's marketing, product management, support, development and production will remain in Switzerland. In the future, distribution will be developed through Leica Camera AG, as well as through Sinar Photography AG's dealer network around the world.

With this acquisition, Leica Camera AG completes the company’s portfolio in the high-end digital camera segment, and further expands its position in the market for professional photographic equipment. With its Leica S system, and in line with the company's brand philosophy, Leica is offering a very mobile, integrated medium format system, which is now being complemented by the Sinar system – a system particularly suitable for studio, industrial and architectural photography. Synergies will also emerge in the areas of digital technology, distribution and customer support.

Leica now possesses a full portfolio of products that range from a medium format digital camera system to digital view cameras. As a result of the takeover, it is now the only full range provider of digital camera systems in formats larger than the 35 mm Leica full-frame format.
