For over ten years, New York photographer Amy Arbus captured her neighbourhood for the Village Voice style feature, portraying a colourful array of trendsetters such as Madonna, the Clash, actors and costume designers wearing anything from aviator shades to underwear. Her images reflect a complex piece of New York history, when creativity and individualism fought for breathing space in the wealthy conservatism of the 1980s.
In addition, a simultaneous exhibition of photographs by Curtice Taylor will be displayed in the gallery's Oskar Barnack Room, titled Transforming Nature: Gardens and Landscapes 1985-2011.
