Kyotographie 2019

April 11, 2019

Japan’s former imperial capital is once again set to host the ‘Kyotographie’ photo festival: this year’s edition will be held in Kyoto from 13 April to 12 June 2019.
From 13 April to 12 June 2019, the Japanese city of Kyoto will revolve entirely around photography: eminent collections as well as contemporary works will be presented in both modern and historical venues as part of this year’s ‘Kyotographie’ festival. The international event is dedicated to showcasing a diverse spectrum of artistic approaches, with a conscious focus on exhibition formats that go beyond classic gallery presentations. Albert Watson, Benjamin Millepied, Weronika Gęsicka and Alfred Erhardt are among the many artists represented at this year’s event.

A particular highlight of the seventh festival edition is the ‘Magnum Live Lab/19’. For this project, acclaimed documentary photographers Paolo Pellegrin and Kosuke Okahara will capture their impressions of Kyoto over a period of ten days – allowing festival visitors to follow their production process. The images will then be selected in collaboration with a curator, edited, and exhibited at the Horikawa Oike Gallery.
